Top Rope

New to climbing? Visited High Steppe a few times? This is the best way to get started on learning the ropes! This one hour class will teach you the skills you need to pass the top rope belay assessment and opens the door to roped climbing in the gym. Our instructors will teach you how to use a harness, tie-in, and belay at climber.

Once you’ve learned these skills, they are transferable to any indoor climbing gym as well as climbing outdoors. There are no prerequisites for this fun and informative class. All the gear you need for the course is provided. Participants must be 12 years old or older.

Lead

This two-session course will teach participants how to lead climb. The first session will focus on the fundamentals of lead belaying, clipping, and climbing while leading. The second session will refine these skills, cover some advanced techniques, and give participants lots of time to practice.

Each session is two hours and includes the equipment needed for the course.

Participants must be Top Rope Certified prior to enrolling, must be able to climb 5.10, and will need to be present for both sessions.

Participants must be 12 years old or older.

Lead class
intro to movement

Intro to Movement

This course offers participants the opportunity to build a solid foundation for a lifetime of climbing. The course focuses on effective footwork, balance body positioning, and the coordination to climb with flowing movement.

Participants can expect to learn the value of climbing with straight arms, moving dynamically, and focusing on footwork. Come ready to climb and learn a lot! This course is 1 hour. All equipment is provided. Participants must be 12 years old or older.

Intermediate Technique

This course focuses on developing and expanding participants’ understanding of climbing technique. This information packed course will help you to significantly shorten the learning curve and start making substantial, measurable progress in your climbing.

By combining mental visualizations, kinesthetic awareness exercises, and skills-builder drills, this one-hour class will give you the tools you need to learn how to climb with vastly improved efficiency.

Anchor Clean

Anchor Clean

You’ve just finished your first outdoor lead climb: you clipped your carabiners to the anchor at the top and… now what?

Our Anchor Cleaning clinic will give you the know-how you need to get off a climb safely, without leaving any expensive gear behind. This course also teaches rappelling, an essential skill for anyone climbing outdoors.

Participants of this clinic will learn how to use a variety of tools, including a personal tether and a rappel device. This class is 2 hours of instruction and practice. It includes the equipment needed for the course.
